'You shall have no other gods before me.'
The first commandment reminds us of Yahuah's superior position as the sole deity in our lives. Whenever something or someone is prioritized above Yahuah, such as wealth, popularity, or even personal goals, we are in essence acknowledging other 'gods.' But our life's compass, Yahuah, desires to lead us to greater good.
Think of a scenario where your child is consumed playing his new video game, spending less time for family conversations and forgetting to do his responsibilities at home. This is a typical example of how 'other gods' can manifest in our day-to-day life. The video game, in this case, is taking away time and focus that should have been for Yahuah and family.
It's essential as a family to continually remind each other of this commandment. Discuss the importance of giving Yahuah the top priority in all aspects of your lives, and daily make conscious efforts to put Yahuah first before anything else.
